The first Ambassador of the Curtis Palmer Program is Sergeant Tom Dorman. In 2018, Tom had his leg amputated following an on duty road traffic accident. This did not deter him from returning to front line duties. Tom started working with the Curtis Palmer Program in 2019 and trained for and completed our kayaking expedition to Norway. He came away with us as one of the most injured serving Police Officers in the UK at that time, but from day one he threw himself into all activities and we pushed him a little further. Tom was awarded the Police Federations first Inspiration in Policing Award for his resilience and determination. His enthusiasm, determination and teamwork reflect our values: laughing at our own misfortune and always pushing forwards.
